If you have MailWasher installed, you will want to disable automatic email checking:
- Click on "Tools" in the menu bar.
- Select "Account Settings..." from the list.
- Click on the "Server Settings" on the left side.
- In the "Server Settings" section in the middle right, remove the checkmarks next to "Check for new messages at startup" and "Check for new messages every [ 10 ] minutes".
